BMP Viewer
Open uncompressed BMP bitmaps, free.
About
BMP (Bitmap) is a simple, uncompressed raster format native to Windows. Files are large because pixel data is stored directly, but they are fast to read and lossless. Void opens BMP images of any size without fuss.

How to Open BMP Files on Windows with VoidImageViewer
Double-click the file
BMP is native to Windows: double-clicking a .bmp file opens it in the Photos app on Windows 10/11 with no extra software.
Open with VoidImageViewer
Right-click the .bmp → Open with → Void Image Viewer for faster loading of large bitmaps, plus zoom, rotation and keyboard navigation through the folder.
Associate the extension
Tick “Always use this app to open .bmp files” in the Open with dialog, or set it later under Settings → Apps → Default apps in Windows 10/11.
Consider converting to PNG
BMP files are uncompressed and huge. Opening one in VoidImageViewer and exporting it as PNG keeps the pixels identical while cutting the file size dramatically.
Why Open .bmp Files with VoidImageViewer
VoidImageViewer opens BMP and dozens of other formats in one lightweight, offline app. It is free and open source under the MIT license — no ads, no sign-up, no telemetry — and every download is published with a SHA256 checksum you can verify before running the installer.

Frequently asked
BMP is a Windows-native format, so double-clicking a .bmp file opens it in the Photos app immediately. If you work with many files, right-click → Open with → Void Image Viewer to browse the whole folder with the arrow keys.
BMP stores raw pixel data with little or no compression — a 4000×3000 photo can easily exceed 30 MB. Converting the same image to PNG (lossless) or JPEG (lossy) typically shrinks it by 90% or more.
Convert to PNG when the image contains graphics, text or transparency that must stay lossless; convert to JPG for photos where a smaller file matters more. The VoidImageViewer desktop app can batch-convert either way.
No — PNG is lossless too, so a PNG conversion of a BMP is pixel-identical while being far smaller. BMP’s only real advantages are simplicity and zero decode overhead for very old Windows software.
