About
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on modern iPhones and iPads. Built on the HEIF standard, it stores high-quality images at roughly half the size of JPEG. Because Windows lacks built-in HEIC support, a dedicated viewer is the easiest way to open these files on a PC.

How to Open HEIC Files on Windows with VoidImageViewer
Skip the paid codec
Windows Photos needs the paid HEIF Image Extensions — and often HEVC Video Extensions too — before it opens .heic files. VoidImageViewer decodes HEIC natively and needs neither.

Not necessarily. First confirm the extension really is .heic — iPhone “Most Compatible” mode saves JPGs instead — and re-copy the file if the transfer was interrupted. A viewer can display at most the intact part of a damaged file; it cannot repair it, so restore important photos from a backup.
