About
JPEG (or JPG) is the most widely used photographic image format in the world. It uses lossy compression to keep file sizes small, which makes it perfect for photos shared online. Void opens JPEG instantly with correct color profiles and EXIF metadata.

How to Open JPEG Files on Windows with VoidImageViewer
Double-click the file
Windows 10/11 opens .jpg and .jpeg files in the Photos app by default — just double-click. Photos handles EXIF rotation and color profiles for everyday viewing.
Use “Open with” for VoidImageViewer
Right-click the file → Open with → Choose another app → Void Image Viewer. It loads large JPEGs instantly with the correct orientation, then lets you flip through the rest of the folder with the arrow keys.
Set it as the default viewer
Tick “Always use this app to open .jpg files” in the Open with dialog, or choose the file-association option during VoidImageViewer setup to cover every image type at once.
Or preview online
Drop the JPG into the preview tool on this page. Decoding happens inside your browser; the photo is never uploaded.
Why Open .jpg Files with VoidImageViewer
JPEG opens everywhere, yet VoidImageViewer is still worth setting as default: it is free, MIT-licensed open source with no ads and no telemetry, starts in under a second, and reads EXIF orientation so photos display right side up. It handles dozens of formats in the same app, and every download ships with a verifiable SHA256 checksum.

The online preview lets you view the file. To edit, batch-convert, or set it as your default Windows viewer, use the free desktop app.
Frequently asked
JPEG uses lossy compression, so some quality is traded for smaller files. Re-saving repeatedly reduces quality further.
Double-click the file — Windows 10/11 opens JPGs in Photos out of the box. If Photos feels slow on big folders, right-click → Open with → Void Image Viewer, and optionally tick “Always use this app” to make it the default.
The camera stores an orientation flag in the EXIF metadata instead of rotating the pixels. Viewers that ignore this flag show the photo sideways; VoidImageViewer reads System.Photo.Orientation and displays JPEGs the right way up.
A viewer can only decode what is still intact — a partially downloaded or damaged JPEG may show grey blocks or refuse to open. VoidImageViewer cannot repair files; re-download the image or restore it from a backup, and avoid repeatedly re-saving JPEGs, which compounds the loss.
